The Center for Produce Safety funds 14 new research projects

To help answer the fresh produce industry’s most pressing food safety questions, the Center for Produce Safety (CPS) is funding 14 new research projects, worth more than $3.9 million of dollars.

These 14 new projects aim to answer industry questions about growing leafy greens in controlled environments, risk assessment and mitigation of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella, and detection of Cyclospora.

The researchers’ proposals were reviewed by industry experts on the CPS Technical Committee and other volunteer experts.

One of the fourteen projects has already started and the other thirteen projects will start in November 2022 and January 2023. All are expected to be completed within one to two years. Results will be communicated to industry by researchers at the annual CPA Research Symposium, and via CPA through other knowledge transfer activities, including abstracts posted on the CPA website and monthly emails from CPS providing research updates.
