Nelly of Hip-Hop Fame Releases First Live Release to Celebrate ‘Country Grammar’ 20th Anniversary
Nelly released a new digital version last Friday called “Country Grammar Live”. It was recorded live at MelodyVR The “Live From LA” studio last July to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Country Grammar,” his debut album as a solo artist and one of his best-selling albums to date.
This is Nelly’s first live release and features a live band giving the original album more of a rock vibe. This gives Nelly the distinction of being an artist across multiple genres – country, rap, R&B, and now a rock infused album.
The hip-hop icon is taking fans back to the summer of 2000 with this special performance that includes his hits “Ride With Me” and “EI,” according to a press release from Universal Music Enterprises.
“Country Grammar” debuted at No. 3 in the Top 200, soon rising to No. 1. The LP was nominated for Best Rap Album in 2000 Grammy Awards with the title song for Best Rap Solo Performance. Nelly won the award for Best New Artist at the 2001 BET Awards. Years later, in 2016, the album was certified Diamond by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling over 10 million copies.
“Country Grammar Live” is available for download and broadcast here.
The mini-documentary, “Country Grammar – The Documentary (20th Anniversary)) was also premiered on Friday. It features animated clips, performance footage, and Nelly explains how he got his start as an artist. The documentary can be viewed here (note: explicit content possible):
